A significant part of the “I am that I am” collection is filled with creative director Nino Shamatava of Ushatava’s memories of her Georgian roots, family, and her parents’ wardrobe. One result of this introspection is a structured vest that references the chokha, a traditional element of the attire of some Caucasian peoples. Outerwear for Georgian men traditionally emphasized the broad shoulders of the wearer — the accent was heightened by the contrast with the waist, tied tightly with a belt. In this piece, a similar silhouette is formed by darts made throughout the vest’s volume. Another nod to the traditional costume is the high stand-up collar, rigidly folded down around the neck.
